What percentage of the of all FCPS 3rd graders are accepted into 3rd grade AAP each year?

Anonymous
Our 2nd grade classroom (not in Vienna or McLean) had 5/19 accepted right away, 2 more in appeal. So 7/19, 36%

Are you disagreeing with the 15% average, or just providing an anecdote of a school on the high end? Do you think your school should be a self-contained base and center school, like some are advocating?

Any info as to which schools hit the 40% acceptance mark?

Any of the schools in McLean, Great Falls, or Vienna. Guaranteed.

Well, I'm at a school in Vienna, and you're 100% wrong. The high percentage of kids accepted refers to those in the pool who are accepted. For example, you'll often hear 60% or so of kids in the pool are accepted. At our Vienna center school 10% of kids across the board were accepted. That was approximately 2-3 kids per class.

And at our Vienna center school, about 7-10 kids per second grade class were accepted. So clearly, I'm not 100% wrong.

School name?

Colvin Run. And again, these were second graders, so Colvin Run base school kids. Ridiculous.

You claim that from Colvin Run alone, 7-10 kids out of every second grade class every year on avg, and not as an anomoly in a single year, kids are admitted? I call b.s. Beyond b.s.

Call it whatever you want! I'm not particularly interested in your take on what's happening at a school your kids don't attend.

Louise Archer -- 4 full packed class rooms. 120+ but that is a center school

Colvin run is the least affluent area of great falls, not as many get in as the normal richer areas

Huh? Louise Archer has two AAP classes this year. Two of their third grades are not AAP classes. They are not fully packed. The AAP third grades have about 27 kids per class, and most of those kids came from other schools. I believe there were about 12 kids from Louise Archer's second grade that are now in Louise Archer's third grade AAP. You have no idea what you're talking about.

It isn't "my take" - it is a fact that 7 out of 10 kids do NOT get into AAP from the second graders at Colvin Run each year as you're trying to make it sound.

not PP, I think PP said 7 out of each class (25 kids?), not 7 out to 10 kids.

Even that is ridiculous. She is saying 7 TO 10 kids out of every second grade? That would absolutely be an anomaly one time thing or it did not happen ever. That is not happening routinely. She's saying 7 to 10 kids PER second grade at one school...no way.

I said 7-10 (between 7 and 10) kids from each 2nd grade class, of roughly 25-30 kids. You need to read more carefully before jumping down people's throats for stating the truth.

The fourth and fifth grades at LAES each have four Level IV classes and are packed.

That's a center school. Those weren't all LAES 2nd graders originally.

Regardless of all the quibbling over numbers and percentages, the fact is there are TOO MANY KIDS IN AAP, period.
