stopping steroids abruptly can send you into an adrenal crisis. That being said I was on 5 mg of prednisolone and just stopped it once I knew the cycle didn't work out |

I'm on prednisone 5mg now for FET. I'm totally hyper! It counteracts the hormone exhaustion. I have non-IF related immune issues so they added it in just in case. (I've been working with an immunologist since I was 5 years old)
It did help w implantation - though I'm not quite at the point of measuring a heartbeat so I can't say if it really helped. |
| A few months ago, one CCRM doctor told me that I could do the prednisone/antihistamine/pepcid protocol (starting 3 days after transfer) |

Hi- I am the original OP of this thread. I am still on this damned drug and it is now 4 weeks past FET. Ive been on this drug for 6 weeks. Does that seem excessive?
Also (and more importantly) I cant seem to remember if I took my normal dose today. Normally I take it in the AM but since I had a doc appt I cant remember if i took it when i got home. What's worse, missing the dose (5mg) or taking it twice, and thereby taking too much of it? |
|
Hi OP -
I was on it until 12 weeks. My OB said I could stop it cold turkey, but I weaned myself off in an abundance of caution. I wouldn't worry about missing your dose; I'd err on the side of skipping it rather than giving yourself 2x your normal dose. |
Yeah that seems to make sense. Thanks! |
|
OP - that means you've gotten pregnant! congrats!
I am on prednisone now, but only for 4 days (1 day pre transfer and 3 days post transfer). I take 3 pills a day. I just read that this can make people hyper. I have been feeling like my energy is REALLY abnormally high. Like almost an aderol type feeling. Do you think this is a result of the prednisone or I just have anxiety after my FET (which was yesterday). |
|
THanks!
I suppose it depends on the dose. I definitely dont feel hyper on the prednisone. But at this point, I've been on it so long that I am probably dependent on it and don't know it. (if you can't tell I detest having to take it). |
| SG has me on 5 mg through week 10, then 2.5 til week 12 then stop. I'm starting with an MFM at week 11 and told that the MFM may hold me on it longer. |
| what is an MFM? |
| MFM = Maternal Fetal Medicine or Perinatologist. Speciality Dr. For high risk pregnancies. If you are high risk, you see both the OB and MFM. High Risk = age, genetic issue, preexisting condition like diabetes, multiples, heart issues, clotting, reoccurent loss or anything that might compromise the health of mother or baby. If you aren't high risk, then you don't need one -- though if you have concerns, it doesn't hurt to ask your OB if you should get a consult. |
| what did the MFM say? If they think you should continue, why? |
| Prednisone is a very old and well studied drug. Plus most doctors don't even consider 5mg to be a proper dose, it's too low. You don't actually need to wean at that dose. You do need to wean from higher doses (after two weeks of use) because your adrenal system becomes dependent on the drug and will be adversely affected if you don't taper. |
