Has anyone formerly waitlisted been matched?

Almost all schools are in the common lottery, so aside from a handful of kids who move, around 30 or so from LAMB, a handful from Bethune... No one else should be declining their spots right? I guess some do go private but is it really enough to make a difference? Maybe a few hundred?

No-- people can decide to stay at their current school, go to their IB school that they did not lottery for, leave DC, or homeschool. The first two categories are a decent number of people.

You're definitely right for anything about PK3. But for PK3 there is no guarenteed inbound school, and the only "current school" would be private daycare/preschool. I'm thinking that isn't a high number. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm thinking there will be very little movement for PK3. Since fewer spots open up in the upper grades (k-12), probably there isn't much movement there either.

For PK3 I agree. I don't think the lists will move all that much. However, some people choose to have a SAHP and just keep the kid mostly at home. Especially if there's a younger child so they'd be at home anyway.

PP here. Not going to lie I was really hoping someone would disagree with me and give me a plausible reason why there would be lots of movement. The crazy DC baby boom is making it straight up impossible this year.

Sorry hon. It just doesn't work that way. Although I do think that once school starts, people are a lot less willing to disrupt their kid's placement, so you may find that the next spot in a school actually goes to the person a few numbers down on the list, rather than the one who's theoretically on deck.

Yay! Hope!!

Some schools aren't updating the system...

We got the call yesterday. JKLM pk4. They have now gone at least as far as #8 on the original waitlist.

They cannot offer a spot off the waitlist without updating the system. That is, the only way to offer a waitlist spot is to do so through the system. If the system isn't updating, that means that they are not offering any spots. That doesn't mean that someone hasn't turned them down--they are not forced to offer a spot off the waitlist if someone turns down a spot from the lottery. It does mean that, for whatever reason, they aren't offering any available spots to those on the waitlist.

How do you know? It sounds more likely to me that they have offered spaces and the wait list doesn't move until those people have either enrolled or said no.

Not true. We were offered a spot at a school that we were waitlisted for. Our WL # on MySchoolDC still says the same as it did lottery results day....they are not updating.

How can that be!!! The PPP declared "They cannot". Once another DCUM poster has decalred something to be true it must thusly be true.

I think/hope that they will update as people enroll. We were offered a spot at Garrison and declined. They gave us until tomorrow to accept. Maybe early next wee we will see movement across the board.
What I find annoying us that they foind the time to increase waitlist numbers as siblings were moved to the front of the line.
So far Key and Latin have been the only 2 to be updating incrementally.
