laundry room etiquette

op here: it's not like i want to do it. that is what annoys me when people give me dirty looks. i'm like--you think i wanted to touch your underwear? but if your stuff is sitting in a dryer for the entire time that my stuff is in the wash (30 minutes or so), i gotta get on with my day.

OP, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Slightly off topic but.... yes I do think your clothes will get stolen if you leave your laundry unattended. Plus what if some creep gets your underwear? Blech.

That happened to me! It was a little creepy since nothing else was missing, I thought maybe it was because they were nice. Ugh.

With this thread on my mind, I gave a neighbor a 5-minute grace period this morning... and lost my chance to run a few loads before having to go out earlier this afternoon! It's laundry until evening now! No more Mrs. Nice Guy.

That is, I lost my chance because another neighbor got the machines first.

Maybe neither here nor there, but I've lived in apartments all my life and have gone through this before. I have taken people's dry clothes out only when the cycle was completely finished and sometimes even put my own money in the dryer if the stuff wasn't dry just to move things along when all the dryers are in use. I once had a pair of old grey sweatpants taken(?????) Now I have an in- unit washer/dryer, small but I LOVE IT! I can do laundry in the middle of the night, leave my shit in the dryer until Christmas if I so choose and the only missing these days is the occasional solitary sock.

Oh man, I remember those days. Absolutely, OP, you are right. I think if someone gave me a dirty look for moving their laundry I would let them know that I had waited on them for 15 minutes to retrieve their laundry and it was holding me up. Turn it back around!
