I see this attitude all the time. "If only my kid had x diagnosis, [fill in the blank -- wheelchair use, autism, nonverbal, medical problem] -- then we would be receiving the full range of services without question and life would be so much easier." When in fact for those families who have that diagnosis, the fight for an IEP is just as difficult, tedious, frustrating, and overwhelming.
And the little reassurances to other SN moms -- "She has no behavior issues!" "He's cognitively normal! We're at grade level!" Oh so superior! |
