American Idol

I watch both Idol and Top Chef with my kids - good entertainment, family friendly (mostly, and my kids are older), and they provide the basis for great debates. It's one of the few places our entertainment tastes converge!

On top chef, we were all rooting for Carla by the end, and disappointed in the finale.

On Idol, we're pretty split this season, although one DC is already a big Lil Rounds fan, and I'm the only one who likes Adam.

Here's my armchair psychologist analysis of Adam -- take it for what it's worth, which is probably not so much.

He's clearly talented (voice and stage presence), but he's always struck me as a bit . . . inauthentic . . . even manufactured. Like he picked an image he really thinks would work with the AI audience and is doing it well, but it's not necessarily who he is.

But then something about his little interview clip this week made me a little more open to him. Sounds like he's been trying to make it in Hollywood for a LONG time, which means lots and lots of effort and lots and LOTS of rejection. My guess is that he's just trying so hard to be what people want so he can make it this time. Hopefully as the show goes on he'll relaxe a bit and settle in a bit more of an authentic place. I do think he's got an awesome voice and would be really fun to see perform live.

[And yes, I know it's pathetic I have thought about this . . . sorry to the PP who lost 10 IQ points . . . I think this just cost her another 10 . . . . ]
