Second the Deborah Madison recommendation, and I'm not vegetarian.

I love love Ottolenghi's Jerusalem cookbook & his on-line recipe stash at TheGuardian.com. Some of my friends say this is trendy and faddish. But it's a keeper in our house. I refer to it all the time, even if I don't always follow the recipes to the letter. He is a genius with vegetables and flavors. Even my picky kid will scarf down his broccoli. And his fish cake recipes are it.

I am surprised people still buy cookbooks. I am an internet junkie. I have found so many fabulous recipes just by using Google.

im a PP.
I often search recipes on Epicurious, or Chow.. But what's more delicious than curling up with a coffee and a beautiful cookbook on a Sunday morning?

I don't even use my cookbooks for the actual recipes, for the most part. I just totally enjoy reading them.

Mark Bittman's book How to Cook Everything Fast is my current go-to book.

I love that he arranges the recipes by the amount of time they take and include suggestions on side dishes. I really like that he offers variations of the recipes so you can change up the ingredients. So helpful when trying to cook for picky eaters.

Cookbooks are the only books I buy these days. I hate having to keep re-entering passcode on my iPad when I use it to look at online/app recipe and the screen goes black due to inactivity.

I do both. A cookbook is more likely to get me to think of a different way of cooking from my normal go-to list of meals. Internet requires that I'm already have some idea of what I'm trying to cook, because what I get is determined by what I type into the search engine.

I love all of the books that are published by Mennonites (they sell them at 10,000 Villages)
