soon bethesda will look like rockville, gaithersburg, germantown etc. there will be a ben & jerry's, rio grande, buffalo wild wings, elevation burger/five guys, chipotle on every corner. federal realty has not built up the area, they have ruined it, IMHO.

I totally agree. What used to be a real town will now be just like those new fake towns like Kings Farm and Reston Town Center. It is really a shame. I grew up here in Bethesda and it breaks my heart and makes me want to move.

I for one still miss the Ben and Jerry's that was in Bethesda. I hope they come back.

They won't be missed.

You won't be missed either.

+1 so sad
Uncle Julio's used to be known as Rio Grande.

All that's missing is the name. Let's start calling it what it is: Bethesda Town Center.

It was still part of the same chain then, though.

What does this even mean?

I hate what Federal Realty is doing to that part of Bethesda too (really, a Pottery Barn?). The older part over by Veterans Park is a little better, but after they get done building all the large buildings we'll see...

Bethesda is a food wasteland.

You're right - it will become even more gentrified than it already is.

But I kinda wish there was a BWW because there's no place in Bethesda where you can get decent wings.

The wings at Hard Times aren't bad.
They're a damn sight better than the chili.

Yes, I am sad to see them go solely from a nostalgia perspective. Not sure if they were actually good back in the 90s or if I just didn't know better as a teen.
