If you are anti - PARCC are you also anti SAT?

PARCC Testing doesn't create robots. If schools are choosing to teach to the test or are doing rote memorization and drill-and-kill, that's by their own choice, and they aren't doing a good job of educating. Look, PARCC isn't testing kids on obscure or random stuff that would be taking away from normal curriculum and learning. It's not testing kids on their knowledge of Old Church Slavonic or Underwater Basketweaving, it's algebra, grammar, reading comprehension - stuff that kids should be learning anyways.

Someone posted Mrs. Randall on youtube. YOu need to look it up and listen.

No idea what you're talking about.

A teacher explaining the PARCC tests. Worth watching.

That's more about the way that her particular school chooses to implement it. Not all schools do it that way, nor do they have to do it that way.

And again, she uses that obnoxious "developmentally inappropriate" comment without providing any specifics, no criteria, no rationale for saying so.

And why in the hell is she doing this while she's driving? Shouldn't she be paying attention to the road?

You would be surprised at how many schools do it that way. How else can you test when you have one computer lab and all the kids have to cycle through it?

Do you think she's lying about how she feels?

But, she is an expert--and you are not.

"Developmentally inappropriate" is a term that teachers are applying to standards that are so far out of reach for their students that the kids hit the frustration level. CC supporters do not have a clue.

Bullshit.

Again, the question is, for the 438th time, which standard, SPECIFICALLY, and how, SPECIFICALLY is it "so far out of reach?" What exactly are the criteria, and where is the data for saying so? Out of reach for how many kids? These are concepts and questions that any teacher should be able to understand.

Yet, nobody ever seems to be able to answer those questions, which makes the comment of "developmentally inappropriate" utterly meaningless and without merit.

Sorry, but no cigar.

Answered many times over. You just don't like the answer.

So answer it again. Please provide one "developmentally inappropriate" standard, and explain specifically how it is so far out of reach. Just ONE standard.

The answers are slowly coming out. Did you read the Forbes article that was posted on the other thread?

Also, yes, let's give teachers time to help change these standards. There are some big reasons why they are not working out in the schools. And let's stop the testing RIGHT AWAY until we can refine the whole implementation process. Wouldn't you agree that it's not fair to test kids in so many schools where the standards are not being implemented well? The kids don't understand why they are failing. It's a mess.

I was forced to take my kid to a psychologist because he couldn't pass the 5th grade standardized writing test. Yes, the school told us to do that. Why? Because he threatened to kill himself if he had to take the test. In 5th grade.

I wish I had known about opt out (there was no such movement back then). He was forced to take the test. I can't tell you how stressful that whole year was for him and us.

I could care less whether he passes or fails on this stuff. I know that he is improving and that's all I need to know.

And you can tell me until the cows come home that this was the fault of my school. NO. It was the fault of a system that punishes schools based on their test scores. The pressure on the school was intense. Now they want to put that on the teachers. Hell no.
