Awkward Admissions Event

Anonymous
I know one K-8 school had an event about high school admissions that included applicant families.

In that case, the admissions director is cold to everyone. Like a current parent smiling and saying hello doesn't receive a reply cold.

Perhaps the AD was gushing over the current families that she knows and has a relationship with?

This whole thing sounds super odd to me.

OP here — I will update when we receive the decision letter/email, hopefully tomorrow. Unfortunately I know for certain that the gushing was over applicant parents without siblings in the school because we know the families. But, at the end of the day it is the school's loss, not ours. Although it still doesn't change the oddness of the event timing or my curiosity of the event's overall objective.

Our school (a K-12) had an event like this - we called it the Rush event - it was a little strange.

Maybe they plan on accepting everyone and that's why they have these events. ? They could be hoping to increase their yield.

FOLKS....this is a called a TROLL posting!!! You have all fallen for it....Congrats!

OP here — promise, not a troll posting. It happened. It's real, despite seeming completely odd. Wish I really hadn't spent my Friday evening in an uncomfortable environment knowing that's tomoroow's fate is rejection. It was like showing up for cheerleading tryouts, performing only to find out they already picked the team. Uncomfortable.

I believe you. I know a K-8 in MD had an open house for applicants just a few days ago. It happens.

OP Here — Rejected! Just as we thought. Not disappointed, though. After the odd admissions event and cold reception it wasn't an option for us either. We prefer kool-aid free schools.

I would love to know what school -- this just sounds so odd, callous, and unprofessional!

Sounds like the feelings were mutual. Maybe the school figured you would be a PINTA.

Hope you have another wonderful option.

So what school was it?

Sorry to disappoint you but all private schools involve kool-aid. Just different flavors at different schools.

Wise words.
