they gave me a fat robe at the salon today

What exactly is a "fat robe?"

Honestly, I never look at the robe they put on me at the salon.

However now that you have brought this up to me, I will next time.

It just doesnt sit well for me, no matter whether it was done to me or someone else. I think it's gross and also cruel.

Your statement about BMI might be true sometimes, but yes, you delivered it in a blunt and very awkward way. And it can go both ways- many people might show up as having a higher BMI based on weight alone, when consideration of their muscle mass and body type would point out that they have a much lower percentage of body fat.

Fat shaming and body shaming is something that obese people use as a defense mechanism. If one is not over-weight, nothing that someone says about obesity and eating right, etc would bother the person.

NP here. You've got some seriously mixed up thinking going on.

What's a FAT ROBE?

Maybe all the smaller ones were taken/dirty.

This--or they don't have them. Petite teenage daughter went in for a procedure and she was given a hospital gown suitable for a 300 lb. man.

Another possibility is that young assistant no bigger than my DD is a very bad judge of size (they have a hard time judging age too) and gave you an inappropriate robe.

OP you don't sound fat to me.

NP, and I completely disagree. There are far too many people who who believe anything over a size 6 is "fat" or unhealthy or otherwise undesirable for a woman, period. It's disturbing, and your posts (if you're the PP who posted about a BMI of 24 being unhealthy) echo that disturbing attitude. Save your concern for people who ARE unhealthy, not people whose BMI you find too high for your personal comfort.

Totally agree.

At the spa, I just ask for a larger robe and they give it to me.

Why all the drama on this thread?

It is the insecurity of women who are overweight or obese that is surfacing. It happens every time when weight is discussed. If these people would just eat sensibly, not stuff themselves with food and be more active they would not have to be sensitive about their weight. No one needs to be rail thin but maintaining a healthy weight is entirely achievable unless one has a medical issue.

High side of "normal" as defined by an American scale is indeed FAT.

Go walk around Europe with that BMI and see if you can even shop for clothes.

Have you gone through peri-menopause yet? I would have made your same statement about 9 years ago.

Good luck to you.

OP, please don't read anything into it. I am a larger woman and the spa gave me a very small robe. it was very uncomfortable. When I asked for a larger one, the woman took mine and was surprised because they gave me the smallest size they have - not even the regular size robe, but a petite, x-small.

I didn't read anything into that like yay, I look small (obviously I didn't think that) just that there was a mistake. Could be the same thing with your situation.

And ps. you're not fat or large!!

Goodness, the fact that you and PP are so touchy about my choice of words demonstrates that you are not totally comfortable with your body. Instead of parsing my words, do something to better your health, then!

Good advice, but you should take it yourself. Your exaggerated concern with weight and body shape suggest that you would do well to look into therapy.

Not everyone who is overweight eats insensibly, "stuffs themselves with food," or is inactive.
