Yes it's sad, they should've had them in 3rd grade

We are in a lot of activities. As soon as they are drop off, my child will have a cheap kids phone for emergencies. I don't see the issue when they are inexpensive and have a tracker so we know exactly where they (or at least the phone) is and if they need me, can easily call. If cheap phones were available, my parents would have gotten us them to keep track of us.

The age of helicopters and over-undulgence = spoiled kids with zero common sense.

I got my 10-year-old a Kindle for Christmas. He loves it. We jokingly call it his "Netflix machine" but he uses it for lots of other things.

ipad Mini - 1st generation. Cheapest is about $200 I think. You can look at Gamestop or online at Apple for used/reburbished ones. We got DD 8 yr. one for her bday. She loves it.
