Or you can take the old SAT in Decemberof this year or January 2016. If DC bombs the January '16 SAT, then will take the ACT in May or June '16.

No way is DC taking the new SAT. I read thst a lot of it is based on the common core which is not used in private schools (at least not in the privates I'm familiar with). And besides, DC tests better with straightforward tests like the ACT.

Hopefully, the colleges he's looking at won't hold it against him/her. By all means kids should only take the tests they do well on. No one can see through that.
And why would any college hold it against any student who did not want to take the new SAT but chose ACT?

There are numerous articles about the wisdom of the new SAT. Do a little research. It's all over the internet.

Also, if the score is good enough, you've gotten it out of the way before junior year gets crazy - with increased work, driver's ed, beginning the college process.

And, if it doesn't go well, you have plenty of time for more prep and/or the ACT.

drivers ed is sophomore year.
drivers ed is when you want to do it. No law saying you have to take it sophomore year.

FCPS and other counties in Virginia have it imbedded into their sophomore PE classes. If you are talking about learning how to drive junior year, then I agree, it is part of junior year for many students, but they take driver's ed in school sophomore year.

Can you link to some positive stories? When I googled I found mainly complaints about it. My google ability seems to be off today.

Not everyone attends public school nor lives in Virginia but point understood about being embedded into certain classes.

PP here. I meant the wisdom (or lack of) of the new SAT in a not so positive light. Yes, nothing but complaints which is why so many are electing to take the ACT.
