If you spent the summer with your grandparents, how often did your parents visit?

I don't understand this at all if the grandparents are a short drive away.

Please explain this to me.

My parents aren't a short drive away. They live in FL. My kids spent 2 weeks with them last year. This year they will spend 4 weeks with them and my parents will be driving them back labor day weekend. They will be 9 and 6yo.

How old are your parents?

I can't even imagine this. SIL's had that luxury, but we don't.

I spent two weeks every summer at my grandparents' house near Pittsburgh. Sometimes I'd go with my sister (we are close in age) and other times, I'd go solo. Loved every minute of my vacations with them.

I talked to my mom on the phone maybe once a week. Never homesick.

Back to say that I kept this arrangement from age 5 - 15.

Sometimes, at the end of my stay, my mom would drive up to visit and we'd drive home together.

It's a great bonding experience for both. Kids get something from grandparents that they can't get from their parents.

My parents are 3hrs away. They are young (late 50s). We go visit, the kids hardly notice us. Grandparents live on the Chesapeake bay. They have a magical summer full of sailing, crabbing, fishing, swimming, and cousins and friends. DH and I in turn also get a magical summer.
