I realize it's late in the application game for you OP, but to the others: A safety school is only a safety is the student is wiling to go there.

Remember to look at the FA packages. Look at all the small print, like is it just for one year, what happens if you don't make the grades, etc. Colleges use these packages to get you in and sometime cut the money off in the second year.

A safety is where your DC can get in with high probability and you can pay. It is for "everything else fails" situations. Most kids don't want to attend their safeties.
