| We're watching The Waltons. |
+1 We also like to watch The Middle, The Goldbergs, Mythbusters, Dr. Who (prescreened - some episodes are too scary for my 10 yr old) |
|
Watched Brooklyn 9-9 last season with 6 year old DS. But this season has a bit more bad language, so he's not allowed to watch it any more.
DD and I watch Project Runway. Again, the only issue I have is with language. Otherwise, we stick to "non-fiction" type shows. DS's favorites involve the titanic or natural disasters. Both kids like Mysteries at the Museum. |
I grew up on this show and Little House on the Prairie. There really aren't very many shows you can watch with your kids these days. |
| Our entire family loved the bbc show Merlin -- all 5 seasons. it took us an entire year to see 8it all -- we were so sad to end it because we loved sharing it so much. Its excellent-- just enough sword fighting and magic for the 10 yr old boy, and enough costume drama for the older girl. it was 45 mintues of bliss in our house! |
| My 8 and 6 year olds are into superheroes, so we watch Agents of Shield and Agent Carter. We also watch The Librarians which was very magical. Another show they like is FX's Face Off, where artists compete to create special effects make up. Its great! |
My kids love it too, they are completely absorbed by that show lol. |

The Middle is a great family show.
I watched The Nanny with my mom, but there may have been too many sex references (that I didn't understand at age 12 and was too embarrassed to ask) for me to think it's appropriate for a 12yo now. I think Sherlock is great too, for older teens. I'm almost 30 and sometimes I think it's a bit too scary. I Love Lucy is also a classic. My family loved that show. |
SYFy channel has Creature Challenge, similar to Face Offbut they build special effect models |

Scorpion
Elementary The Middle Once Upon A Time Agents of Shield The McCarthys (sometimes questionable) Modern Family Grimm My 10 and 11 year olds love these shows. The 10 year old doesn't like Grimm or Elementary but he loves The McCarthys. |
We watch Little House on the Prairie. My DS is eight. My DS likes science so we watched Neil deGrasse Tyson's Cosmos. (awesome btw) Cupcake Wars Netflix has a lot of family or educational options. I try to pick out a couple of shows a month to watch with my DS. I let my DS watch a couple of episodes of Once Upon a Time. It's not bad and certainly fine for a preteen. |
| Jeopardy, Masterchef JR, Parks and Rec, Parks and Rec |
We watch this also, along with Jeopardy and sometimes Dance Moms - but only the dance scenes. We fast-forward through all the ugly screaming. |
| ^^^PP here; forgot to mention The Office too. Hilarious to see it all again through our tween and teens' eyes. |

My 9 and 6 year old also really like Project Runway, though I've not been watching it this go round.
Surprised no one has mentioned American Idol. That seems like a classic family show. I'm trying to figure this out too. Growing up, we watched tv together as a family many nights. Now, given schedules it just seems like there's no time at all. The only show we're watching is Star Wars Rebels (which is pretty good). Would love to get my 9 year old off the awful Disney shows and especially the Nick cartoons. |
