| ^^did you even read the thread? It is about moving after lotterying as OOB. |
| In the past, people would get a spot because they lived IB and then they would move OOB and keep the spot--principal had discretion to allow. People did not to my knowledge get an OPB spot and move. I spoke to the common lottery folks who said you can definitely get an OOB spot if you don't use your IB address in the lottery, if there are out of bounds spots available and you get a good draw. It is not correct to say that "officially, this is not allowed." |
I don't understand. How can you use an address other than your own in the lottery? I get that address cheaters do this, but why would the "common lottery folks" say that you can do this? |
The easiest way to do it, and what they advised me to do, is to leave off your quadrant, so it won't be picked up by the system as an in boundary address. |
| But aren't you legally still IB? I don't get it. |
| You are IB but received an OOB spot so can move anywhere in the city. The new boundaries say that if you are IB and move OOB you can only stay if you secure a spot the OOB lottery. Doing this is especially helpful for renters. |
Well, this sounds like a ridiculous loophole that they need to close, and it boggles my mind that someone in from the common lottery would be advising anyone to do this. |
Let's be honest here -- only parents who can't afford to buy a family-sized home in DC are pulling this stunt. Renters. |
| Many people can afford to buy but would buy a larger place if they were able keep their school but move. |
| I tried this. They wouldn't let me. Said I should talk to principal.. |
| When did you try it? |
Sure. But a) there would have to be OOB spots available and b) they would have to have luck to get the spot with no preference in the lottery. |
How is it a loophole? I would much rather have someone get an OOB spot and then move than use dubious "principal doscretion" to do so. |
| It may be better than dubious principal discretion, but it is still a loophole. If this is allowed they should spell it out in the FAQ, if it isn't allowed, they shouldn't allow it. |
|
I do not understand how it is a loophole. Everyone has the right to get a slot OOB--and if a current IB family gets it, then they will simply take one more from the OB list.
I know people who got into a school OOB, liked it, and then moved IB. They still would have the right to move OOB because they initially received the slot OOB--why shouldn't someone else who starts IB and secures an OOB spot be able to do so? They still have to actually have luck and actually get an OOB spot through random lottery luck. |
