Not the PP, but I think he/she really did just say it, and I don't think they meant to give offense. Lighten up. |
wasn’t me, but what’s the problem? Near perfect correlation methinks. |
FHS parent here -- not true about Asians, but great racist remark. |
| FHS is playing catch up, but they draw a pretty smart crowd. People who live out in Loudon or points north of the beltway simply cannot make it to SSSAS. Traffic patterns have changed a lot in 25 years. FHS is a very pleasant warm private that offers plenty of academic stimulation for students who want to do more. It is nothing like the public school that it is compared with. "The public school you pay for" Not accurate for students there now. |
| Both are great schools, we applied to both and went with SSSAS mainly because of travel time(we are in Falls Church near 395). Loved both, and truthfully DS liked FH more but the commute would have been a beast. Know plenty of folks at both, and either choice is a good one. SSSAS is a bit small in regards to social circles, but there are plenty of kids and as a whole, everyone is friendly. |
They don’y have high math scores. No need to hide your head in the sand over this. See SAT scores at TJ -- it’s mostly Asians.
|
| I cannot see how pointing out the obvious -- that Asians have high math scores -- is in anyway “racisit.” Just a fact. |

There seems to be a lot of bias against FHS on this forum. Not sure why. Just because its outside the beltway doesn't mean it isn't a good school. SSSAS is good too. I would look at what school works best for your DC and your family not what the "Big 3" types think. Also the reputation of the school has really improved in the past ten years. A lot of people base their opinions off twenty years ago. Their college list has high % of W&M and UVA which I think indicates that it is a good school.
Also I don't understand the bias against Asians on this forum. |

Which school has a stronger math department?
We are in northern VA and have a student at an independent school who is ahead in math (currently in 5th and doing a mix of differentiated current classwork, independent study, and online Algebra through CTY). We tried public (AAP) and it was no more advanced than private and the class sizes made differentiation pretty impossible. We are looking for a high school with high level courses and flexibility for something like dual enrollment for kids who need courses beyond what they offer. |
| Off topic, but wondering how it compares to Bullis? Especially learning center? |
| I don't think anyone is bashing FHS. It has improved in the last 10 years but it still has a long way to go before it can be comparable to other private schools in the same high price range. I really don't think the location has anything to do with the reputation either. Bottom line, if it's a great school, people would be willing to do the commute. |
| Surprised that FHS tuition is higher than SSSAS. SSSAS High School - $33,520 versus FHS - $37,280. |
| SSSAS has better parties. |
| Look at the threads about Flint Hill. EG: How Good is Flint Hill?, Is it Worth It? etc. This says a lot to me. Occasionally schools get haters, but most posts seem to be positive when the families who actually go/have gone there post. Flint Hill shows a pattern that you don't see with other schools including SSSAS. The only other schools that gets as much dislike/hate is Bullis, but the hate seems to come from the outside as opposed to families at the school. Flint Hill seems to have higher dissatisfaction among families who post on this forum compared to SSSAS. I don't know why this is but I do think it says something. |
| Haha 21:11 That was true back in my day, but who knows now. |
