Disney World in the summer?

Anonymous
That is a great week to go. It will be less crowded than early Aug since all the southern states are already back in school.

It is hot but once you hit the 90's and humidity it is hot no matter what. You will be used to it after our summers. Plus the daylight hours are longer, the park hours are longer, the pools and all the water rides are usable. MUCH better than President's Day weekend and less crowded.

We go all the time in Aug, used to be Sept when the kids were little. We love it.

Since our kids' school year for 2015 doesn't begin until September, how crowded will the parks be the last week of August (Sunday the 23rd - Thursday the 28th)? Is there a better time to go in the summer? School ends mid-June and we haven't signed anyone up for camps yet.

Any recommendations for places to stay, books/websites to look at, etc? We want to stay within 10 minutes of the parks, if possible (I already have a lead on a place that's 25 minutes away, but I'd rather not with 3 kids).

We won't be eating at the parks (religious restrictions and cost), so we must have an apartment/hotel room with a kitchen.

TIA!

Just so you are clear there are NO hotels within 10-25 minutes of parks that have kitchens in them except the Disney timeshares. It takes that long to get to the parks INSIDE Walt Disney. Bonnet Creek is about the closest and even that you are looking at 30min from door to door. So not sure how you will swing lunch. Going back and forth would be insane.

This means that you won't get your money's worth from the parks because you won't likely be able to endure the entire day walking around. We decided to take a Disney cruise last year in August instead of doing the parks.

We went in July once. It was miserable. It was either brutally hot or pouring rain.

July and last week of August are completely different. Certain days in July are 9-10/10 capacity. Last week of Aug is 4-5/10 capacity.

Plus if it is 95 and humid here in DC, what is the difference? The rain lasts 20 minutes tops and every park has indoor rides.

They could pack lunches though.

Mom lives in Florida, not too far from Orlando. I'm telling you there is a big difference in the heat and humidity levels between the DC area and Florida in August.
It's hard to believe, since DC can have bad heat waves, but in Florida last August we couldn't be outdoors for 10 minutes without sweating buckets and making a bee-line for the AC.

It is what it is, so OP just be prepared.

STAY ON PROPERTY! I cannot emphasize this enough! It completely changes the experience, makes it so much better, and is worth every penny. I will never go to DisneyWorld without staying on property.

Good news about the capacity. The difference is that at home in DC, we weren't paying hundreds of dollars to spend 12 hours outdoors and waiting in line. Never again.

The mass groups of Brazilian tour groups will make sure you have a miserable time if the hot weather doesn't get you first. They will chant in lines, in the pathways, on the rides. Then they stop the ride over and over because they decide they need to STAND at random moments.
