Dumb question - how do you sign up to get the APS emergency alerts?

APS generally got it right, but I'm puzzled that I was supposed to figure it out by looking everywhere but the emergency notification screen on their website. Hopefully it's a lesson learned.

I'm confused by the confusion. At 4:45, APS announced that there would be a 2 hour delay and that it would re-evaluate at 7. Did some of you think that the 2-hour delay might be retracted at 7? Kids are on their way to middle school by 7 if there's no delay, so it seemed obvious to me that the re-evaluation would be about whether to open at all.

How old are your kids?

They did not announce that on their website until 6:30 a.m. That was the source of the confusion. Some parents of elementary school students get their kids to morning extended day by 7:00, which puts them on the road at or around the time APS finally realized that it had neglected to post the updates on its website and was only doing so through email notifications and facebook. Yes, we should all look at all resources and it's not a huge deal, but until 6:30, the website said schools were opening on schedule. So I think the simple complaint of some parents is that if APS is going to tell parents to check the website for updates it should go ahead and include the relevant updates on its website. I was one of probably a handful of parents who had this happen. My kid and I had a good laugh about it and it was a very minor inconvenience, but still a little annoying given that we refreshed the APS website a dozen times before accepting that they weren't backing down and would be opening on time.
