pps are wrong -- have FEWER children. Or kill the ones you have. The AMT treats them like illegal tax shelters.

The people most likely to trigger AMT live in high-tax states (high deductions for state and local taxes) and have lots of children (i.e. more than one). State and local deductions and personal exemptions are the most common AMT preference items. This includes high property taxes, which is why it's an issue in these parts, where home values are high.
