Did ANYONE from DCPS apologize for the debacle today?

DC has never had the ability to actively clear the streets during a rush hour snowstorm. That isn't DCPS's fault, but it is DCPS's responsibility to take it into account when making decisions.

How would DCPS know that at 5 a.m. plows hadn't been sent out? Blame DPW, not DCPS

There was at least an inch of snow at 5:30 am and the snow was coming down heavy. They had plenty of time to make the call to cancel or delay school.

Shouldn't Bowser be the one apologizing?

I've lived in DC for 23 years. DC has never once demonstrated the ability to respond to snow like today's quickly enough to keep roads clear. Assuming that today would be the first day of a new era seems excessively optimistic.

apologize for providing my child with a normal school day so his schedule and my work was not disrupted? I think a "your welcome" is more in order!

Sounds like some of these parents should have driven their previous snow flakes. I looked at the weather and determined on my own to take my kids.

I am relieved you and your children reached your destinations safely.

(See what I did there? That is called empathy. Try to take notes and strive to become a better person).

Don't worry. Tomorrow they will overreact to this uncalled for criticism and either delay or close the schools.

Bowser should apologize--instead she was interviewed gently and responded like a High School sophomore, "...uh...we need to clear streets...we r not just out writing tickets..."...WAT?? But she looked cute in her Lexus 4 door with her cute bangle bracelet (shells? Reminder of a tropical vacation?) and furry parka.

100 percent agree.

DCPS rarely closes because a good number of students get their only hot meal of the day - or maybe their only meal of the day - at school.

I got my kid to school today. And I think it would have been absurd to close school for this small snowfall. The failure is DPW's.

So who calls the shots with DPW?

Y'all are really something else.

Almost getting in an accident to teach your children was a blast and a half!

If you are unable to cope with driving in snowy/icy conditions and have failed to equip your vehicle with appropriate winter tires (I.e., not "all-season tires) despite having children in your vehicle, then feel free to keep your young'ns at home with you. That's where they would have been anyway had DCPS delayed opening.
