Vacation with infant?

Anonymous
Go for it. I wnet to a friend's wedding in Europe with DS when he was 3 months old and we had a blast.

-is it more trouble than it's worth to fly for a 5-day trip with a little baby - with all the stuff you need to bring, the airport, etc?
It was me & DS and we fit all our stuff into one carry-on size bag that I checked anyway and I took his carseat which I gate-checked. It was a toss up between the carseat or the umbrella stroller, but since he was 3 months I went with the car seat, At 6 months I would probably opt for the stroller. It was a 4 day trip total and total worth the 7+ hour flight.
-what do you consider the essentials to bring on a trip with an infant - pack n play (or did you use hotel crib), stroller, carrier, some sort of sunshade if at the beach, what else (besides the obvious like clothes, diapers, etc)?
The hotel provided a pack n play. It was very clean, very new, etc. But he ended up sleeping with me anyway. As far as taking diapers, I took enough for the whole trip and I regretted it. I forgot that you can buy diapers where you are going! If I did it again I would take enough diapers for the travel plus the 1st day and stock up at my destination. As far as food, I would take that if you or the baby are particular about the food and you are going to a country where you don't speak the language fluently. But if you are traveling in the States you can probably find the same brand baby food at your destination as well.

-any other tips about traveling with an infant?
Relax! Just because you have a baby doesn't mean you can't have fun anymore, it will be great.
