| I'm glad you got this diagnosis. My DD's speech was atypical at that age and I brought her in to Child Find and because she had all the sounds required, they said she was fine. Turns out she had a pretty significant receptive delay that wasn't diagnosed until we started pursuing other diagnoses. |
Admitting my utter cluelessness with my first child, no. I did note that I could, for example, discuss Christmas presents with someone while he was playing in the same room and be quite confident he was picking up nothing. That should have been a huge clue, but I was pretty laid back and simply thought it was normal variation. His kindergarten teacher raised the possibility of a language problem with me and urged me to get him tested as quickly as possible, not waiting for the school machinery to grind away. She got us in with an SLP she knew at Children's. |
