Are you using all 12 of your lottery slots?

I hope this is a joke...are people really that out of touch to think that uber to/from twice on a school day would be feasible to transport a kid to school? Really? I have friends that struggle to pay aftercare yet alone $800 a month in taxi costs.

In this case - the family has a nanny already they are paying for.

So they would pay for the nanny AND uber? Or the preschooler goes alone in uber?

PK3 here. We'll likely use about 5 or 6. The commute to any of the others is just completely not viable.

Also Van Ness
Some might consider amidon-Bowen and that the SW Appletree if close enough

Oh, and Eagle Academy in SE. Looks fine for preschool. Couple of MOTH families there. Also J O Wilson

What will you do if you don't get in to any of them?

I would be wary of limiting your choices based on what your nanny is able to walk to. Does that mean you're not lotterying for your "dream" schools at all? Or do you not have any other dream schools elsewhere in the city? I'd be loathe to miss out on a chance to try for IT or YY based on what the nanny is able to do this year. There are lots of Hill parents who carpool to several HRCS.

I should clarify that #6 is our subpar IB school, which we'll almost definitely get into (unless demographics have dramatically changed since last year and our neighbors are all equally unlucky in the lottery).

We plan to move in the next couple years or go private.

Why not pay for private, or partial daycare close to the Hill. Preschools have slots for PK3. Why take a slot for two years when you are going to move anyway? If you can afford it, it's only around 15k per year. Seriously, why agonize.

I just don't get it, if you can afford private for K-12, why are you entering the lottery?

Why not. Some Charters are "private" like and are free99.

Both Tyler programs
Ludlow
Payne
Minor
Maybe Thomson (metro accessible)?
Two Rivers (long walk)
Apple tree
Yu Ying (bus from Hill)

So, are you willing to stay at Watkins after K? (and agree with pp, Brent and Maury are throw-aways is you aren't IB) Because if you pull a good number here you'll get in a pebody and lose your chances at Logan/SWS. If you're IB for Peabody but you'd rather go Logan long-term - I'd flip this...

Privates don't start until PK4.
