If host is vegatrian but guests are not....

Host is vegetarian = bring vegetarian dish. Pretty simple. Unless host specifies otherwise. When in doubt, host preference rules.

Just like if you're Paleo, you don't need to make modern human food for your guests. If they choose to come they know what they're getting into.

I'm vegetarian and we keep a vegetarian house. Please don't bring meat to my house - it won't make it past your car door.

Call and ask.

This is rider and more ridic thAn a carnivore bringing the meat to your house. I am a vegan for ethical reasons but I would never be this much of an ass.

You should check with the host. But if you don't want to or can't, bring a vegetarian dish.

No need to be rude, PP. The food forum is one of the most helpful and polite places on DCUM and we'd like to keep it that way.

To the topic at hand, OP, I'd bring a vegetarian dish if I were you. It's respectful to your host.

There is no courteous option except to bring something the hosts can eat, except if the restrictive host absolutely insists that you bring a different dish.

What so many of you militant vegetarians seemed to have skipped is that OP said that the host's spouse is NOT vegetarian, so essentially one spouse is vegetarian and one is not. I'm the earlier poster that suggested splitting your contribution and making one half vegetarian and one half not. Then you have something for both hosts. I assume that if the host was a vegetarian-only household, then she would have mentioned that and it would be a given that you don't bring meat. But you have a mixed household and mixed guests. I would guess that this host is not as demanding and rigid as you are and would not be sending meat contributions back to the car like the obnoxious host above.

OP here. As PP mentioned, and it seems I didn't make very clear, the host's spouse is steak & hamburger guy. I've decided to do both options, kimchi dumplings and shrimp springrolls.

Merry christmas

Vegetarians are usually unhealthy I would recommend a low fat meat like filet mignon

I'd bring whatever I liked but then I wouldn't eat at a vegetarian house because they are filthy housekeepers,
