Do you believe in guardian angels?

I've always wondered about this:

Third grade was a super rough year for me socially. I won't go into specifics, but it was basically mean girl type stuff. One day at recess, my friends had told me they didn't want to play with me, and I was standing by the school wall, crying. An older girl (maybe 3-4 years older) that I'd never met before came over to ask me what was wrong. I told her, and she said something along the lines of "Sometimes my friends can be mean, too." I can't remember the specifics of the conversation, but recess ended and I felt much better. I wrote a note telling my friends it was fine if they didn't want to play with me, because I had a new friend. My lack of caring / having a new friend seemed to bring them around (again, can't remember specifics, but I recall that they basically back tracked on not wanting to be my friend).

I never saw that older girl again. And I went to a very small school, in a very small town. I asked about her to others, including older kids that I knew, and no one had heard of her. I remember the event so clearly, even almost 30 years later, that I'm sure I didn't imagine or invent it.

So you think she was a guardian angel, because you couldn't track her down? There are lots of other explanations - a girl from another school passing by for some reason, a kid from out of town who was visiting cousins, an small adult you couldn't see clearly through your tears - and yes, even your imagination - your superego protecting you and providing you comfort and encouragement

Coming home around 9 pm, she heard footsteps and gave a quick glance and a man was following her. She wa on the street alone and terrified when suddenly an English-speaking policeman appeared, walked her home, and unlockef the front door for her. She went in and turnef to thank him and he was not there, had completely disappered.

Maybe he figured he'd done his bit and left to avoid a big show of gratitude. He was just doing his job, after all.

Also, the fact that she was terrified doesn't mean she was in actual danger. Men follow women around in Italy all the time.

Maybe some people don't get guardian angels -- for instance lower-income kids who live in rough neighborhoods

If you have a guardian angel, do they guard you all the time, or just some of the time?

For instance there could be times when you've really felt protected from some likely disaster and other times when something pretty bad happens. Where was the guardian angel then? Watching someone else? Taking a break?

Do Guardian angels get punished in heaven when one of their earthly charges gets murdered or run over?

Are some guardian angels more competent than others? It sure seems like it. Some people seem to somehow get out of most of the tight spots they get into, while others have multiple rounds of bad luck.

Guardian angels are there with us all the time. Through the good times, the bad times and the truly terrible times. We can sense their presence and sometimes under the right circumstances we might be able to see and hear them (I may have seen my guardian angel, myself, when I was little and needed that literal figure, but not since then). In my case, I get the sense that my angel is giving me little mental nudges (feels like an intuition not a physical push). After a point, you begin to trust and listen to those little nudges.

That doesn't mean that nothing bad has ever happened to me because of course it has. But even through the bad times I have felt that loving presence.

Do you believe that everyone has a guardian angel? For instance, even people who don't feel the loving presence the way you do?

I think that guardian angels are doing God's work, so are agents of God.

Yes, everyone has a guardian angel - absolutely. But I think that some folks have stopped being tuned into theirs. That doesn't mean that it's too late for them to start listening. A guardian angel will never steer you wrong.

Not pp quoted, but a pp up thread with the children and nannies sensing it too.

One one occasion I felt the presence of both my grandmother and my deceased mil. I can't explain how I knew it was them, but I did, unequivocally. For other instances, I have either felt my deceased mil's presence or just assumed it was her because her presence was so strong in the past.

Like pp. I believe they are doing God's work.

So when people make big mistakes or get into big trouble it's because they have not tuned in to their guardian angel. The angel is there, but not helping them because the person has not specifically asked for help. In that sense the angel seems of less help than a friend or the police, who, if present and aware of danger, will intervene, whether you ask for help or not.

No. The guardian angel does not nudge them towards making big mistakes/getting into trouble. And the guardian angel does not grab a person and stop them from making big mistakes, either. People have free will always. Sometimes it feels good to do things that get us into trouble but it rarely pays off for us even if we do learn plenty from making those mistakes. Our guardian angels are there for us, regardless, though.

I've made plenty of big mistakes, especially when I was younger. And I've dealt with the not so pleasant consequences of having done so. My guardian angel never left me and was there for me when I needed to pick myself up and do better. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it.

There are, of course, times when bad things happen to us that our completely outside of our control. Again, not something that our guardian angel has any control over, either. But our guardian angel will be there for us to comfort us and help us to heal.

Sounds interchangeable with how some people relate to God or Jesus. It's almost as if you can conjure up which being watches over you and how they do it and as long as you believe it and settle on the parameters of the help or comfort they provide -- then it works

Guardian angels are an extension of God. We feel their presence in a way that is familiar and kind to us.
