+2 Don't use the microwave to heat the food before putting in the thermos. Heat it up on the stove. I did this many years for my DD and she said the food always stayed warm. Cold food, I would use an ice pack or add another thermos but this time fill it with ice cubes and put in freezer to keep nice and cold before putting cold item inside (like potato or macaroni salad - anything with mayo). |
| I used to think there was no way this would work. But one day I packed my son something in the thermos, using the DCUM rules (hot water to heat it up, and make the food superhot before I put it in). And also in the lunchbox I put an ice pack and fruit. Well, my son told me he could not even eat his hot part because it was too hot. And he doesn't even have a super early lunchtime. So the icepack did not cool off the thermos, and the thermos never feels very warm on the outside. So yes, you can do both. |
This is what I do. Fruit and drink stays cold, thermos stays hot. Thermos almost every day. Hardly ever send sandwiches. |
