are we nuts - travel over christmas with 3 and 11 mo

Yes. Fly to Ft. Myer and get a suite in Naples or Marco Island or Sanibel. Or go in thru Tampa or Ft. Lauderdale (I find MIA to be a headache.) Or as pp suggested drive or take the train to a mountain resort with a kid's club. Fun for them, spa day for you.

Only driving someplace more local, which doesn't require getting on I-95 for any length of time. Why subject yourself to holiday travel if you don't have to?
