Early Decision Results at DS or DD school

Oh, I thought you meant two kids found out Thursday they got in, the athletes who got recruited from Sidwell and other schools found out weeks ago. I think that OP meant what the early results were for non-athletes. If someone gets into an Ivy as an athlete, that is a reflection of that kid's talent more than the school the kid was recruited from IMO.

PP here - how did I back out? I know the swimmer got in weeks ago. This thread is for EA or ED results and other posters started listing which kids (specifically at SFS at this point for some reason) have heard back in the last few days as results are trickling out. Then some other PP starting saying that the numbers were light, etc. Whatever. the point is that a lot of kids are getting disappointed, and not just from Sidwell. It's worth pointing out that kids will get in because of other reasons than academic merit. That's life.

NP here. There is "in addition" to academic merit, and there is "in place of". Athletes recruited by the Ivies need a minimum of a "B-" GPA according to an agreement signed by all the Ivy schools. Try getting in to an Ivy on merit alone with a GPA of B-. The SAT scores of recruited athletes also have a minimum that are hundreds of points lower than a true merit admission. Legacies do not have the same academic records often times - though there are some like my child who probably would have gotten in on his own. Why take the chance though! And plenty of check-the-box applicants who are held to different standards. See the lawsuit against Harvard for that discussion. So I wouldn't jump all over PP for not saying "in addition to" academic merit. That just simply isn't true in a lot of cases. If you can't admit that, then you don't live in the real world.

Interesting that Sidwell is having a brutal year but other schools, for example GDS, are enjoying continued success in selective early admissions.
