This year we had a Christmas potluck in the conference room that cost $15 to attend (I didn't go).

Do you work for the fed?

Yep!

My DH had his rescheduled for January. Although, if there actually is one, I'll be very surprised.

Nope, the contracting company I work for via the fed gov, rented the National Museum of Natural History.

The reception/ dance area was in the lobby where the elephant is displayed.

I work for the fed too and the 5 years I've been here it's always been potluck. If you didn't bring anything, it was suggested to donate $10.

Another Fed here- it was make a dish for potluck or pay. $10. Livin' it up.

State employee here: having a potluck; my department can only stay 30 minutes because otherwise we are "wasting state time." Sigh.

Another fed.
Our department did not have one this year. It's always a gross potluck and I always avoided those.
We usually paid $7-$10 for a few catered in items. I'm glad we skipped it this year.

The amount of business we have is probably not ever coming back and the atmosphere is generally negative. Our private equity owners don't seem inclined to roll the savings from reduced benefits and training into a nicer holiday party.

Let me guess, you work for Booz Allen?

Our parties used to be legendary. They were scaled back about 8 or 9yrs ago when the company grew huge, but in years past have gotten even smaller, tighter and less worth going IMO. From open bars to two free drink tickets. Huge spreads of food and great entertainment to far more meager offerings. Doesn't bother me, but it is very noticable that times have changed.

DH used to work at Microsoft. Pre 2006, they had fabulous parties. Now they have cut back so significantly it's embarrassing you have to make dinner reservations elsewhere before showing up to the party at 7:00.
Microsoft made -what? ONLY $40 BILLION last year. Sick.

As a taxpayer, I'd like to thank you!

Yes.
A few years ago the company stopped sponsoring our division holiday party, then the division head paid for it a few years and now this year he asked the managing directors to chip in.
