Thanks so much to everyone who participated in the conversation over the last couple of days! We're signing off for now but below are some ways to stay in touch:
Email us with further questions/comments/feedback: andrew.katz-moses@dc.gov Follow Van Ness Elementary on twitter: https://twitter.com/vannessdcps If you'd like to be included in our email updates, shoot us an email at andrew.katz-moses@dc.gov and we'll put you on the list. Lastly, if you'd like to revisit this topic on a future thread please send us an email and let us know. Have a great weekend! |
I'm also a resident of the neighborhood and would love to see the school use the Creative Curriculum with a Reggio or IB approach. |
Is it true that Van Ness Elementary School will be having two kindergarten classes starting in the 2015 - 2016 School Year? |
DCPS apparently committed to this over the weekend and has confirmed it to HillNow on Monday. Radio silence on a topic that DCPS itself started is yet another example of its utter incompetence. Let's just wait amd see if DGS can get the building online by August. |
DCPS was only planning to participate here for a couple of days, which is what happened. They signed off and left information about how to contact them with additional questions. They may do more of these discussions in the future, but nothing is planned now. |
Can you tell us more about the proposed layout? What is the reading circle room in the media center? |
In response to previous posts:
Proposed layouts are all hypothetical at this point and will be finalized through the SIT team process. SIT teams meet regularly and involve members of the community to determine best usage and design of the facility. DGS will have a page up on their site dedicated to Van Ness with meeting notes, blueprints, etc. Too early at this point to worry about reading nook placement, etc. Also there will be 2 classes each of preschool (3 yr olds), PreK (4 yr olds), and Kindergarten. The poster who wanted to see VN use Creative Curriculum? Your wish is granted--that's their plan for preschool. Those who want to stay up to date on VN, read meeting notes, etc. should request to be added to the Parents on the Capitol Riverfront google group (email previously listed). That's the best way to stay up to speed on developments. Also the aforementioned twitter feeds for vannessdcps and vnpg2015 are a great source. |
