| Teaism. There is one above Dupont Circle that shouldn't be too far. |
It's a chain. There's one in downtown Silver Spring. Not too far for you, OP. Just jump on East-West Highway. When you get to Colesville, turn left and then look for parking. It's on a sort of brick pedestrian area in back of the AFI theater. |
The Teaism in Dupont is tiny and people area always hovering and eyeing your table. Not a good hangout for more than 2 people. The Teaism in Penn Quarter, though, is awesome. (8th & D, either the Gallery Place or Archives metro stops.) Lots of seating downstairs, plus they have beer, wine, and more dessert options than the Dupont one. |
| I think the food in Teaism is just not tasty. The tea... they put teabags in teapots. Is this acceptable for an establishment supposedly focused on tea?.. |
Wow, I've got to disagree. About the food, not the tea (I'm not a tea person, but DW loves it). I've always had great meal there -- the tea smoked salmon, the curries, the bento boxes, the cilantro scrambled eggs & naan .... But hey--different food for different folks.

| Thanks, everyone. And fwiw, I love teaism but only go to the one by the White House, which is really a lunch place. so I need to check out the penn quarter one! |
| Kafe Leopold in Georgetown. |
| Kafe Leopold is great, but I rarely go because the waits are usually at least 30 min. |
| Courtyard at the National Portrait Gallery or Big Bear Cafe! |
The 30 minute wait applies to Saturday and Sunday brunch only. |
| Kafe & Konditrei's 30 minute wait is served with a side of attitude |
About La Madeleine? I am in my late 30's and enjoy the place quite a lot. |
And it closed months ago. |
