Why is DCUM always down lately?

The database cluster has totally gone up in flames tonight. I'm working to restore it, but there may be some data loss.

Back up. There were a few messages lost. I have no idea how many. But, I know there was on thread in Website Feedback. Probably not a lot. I'm holding by breath until Tuesday when the new servers arrive. It will take a day or two to configure them, but then live should be good.

Down again today. Keeps freezing then stops loading completely. Why are you still using hardware and not moving the site to the cloud?

It's a long answer, but the short version is that I don't trust the cloud. This setup has worked almost perfectly for two years. I'm not sure what it happening now but I'm confident it will be fixed by the end of the week. If something goes wrong with a cloud service, you might have to sit around wondering when the cloud people will get it fixed. I'm too much of a control freak to survive that for very long.

I freaked out a little this morning when the forums weren't working....,made me realize how addicted I am. And interesting that so many Ed users, my gov office started blocking this site. Has saved me tons of goofing off at work though.

Ah gotcha. My father is the same way, but I would prefer the cloud than managing my own LAMP stack. Zero passion here for server administration
