| Another question about Duck. I hear the surf in OBX is rougher and undertow stronger than the Northern beaches. Is that true? |
| I've been going to both for years and have not found that to be true. |
I don't think that's true. Go to Duck and enjoy it. And look up the address for Blue Point and find the cross streets. Anywhere around there is probably good as it's in a complex with little shops, ice cream place and the like. |
| OP here. Thank you for all your responses, they have been great. We've narrowed it down to 2 houses - one on Christopher Drive (the cross street for Duck Donuts) and one a few blocks south on Plover Drive. We like the house on Plover Drive better but are concerned that it might be too far to walk to the shops etc? Anyone familiar with the area that can weigh in? Also, is Duck Road walkable, i.e. is there a sidewalk for the stroller and some shade, or would we be walking on the side of a highway? TIA. |
| I would go with the house you like more. |
| Duck is very walkable. There's a great bikepath that goes along the side of the road. There are a couple of points where you have to cross to the other side of the street, but there are crosswalks. One consideration is that the house that's further north will be a shorter walk to the nice community playground. If you're staying in a house with its own neighborhood playground, this may not be so important. |
Thank you - is that the playground for older children, ages 5-12? My child will be 2. Are there playgrounds for toddlers? |
I agree! After a lifetime of doing the Maryland/Delaware beaches, we went to Duck for the first time 2 years ago. We loved the pace, the beach, the bike riding, well, everything about it. We have decided to make it a family tradition and will reserve the Maryland/Delaware beaches for off season weekends. We did not find the drive to Duck to be that lengthy (we live in NOVA), between 4-5 hours. Due to traffic it always takes us at least 3 hours to get to the Bethany. And the beaches are so much nicer in NC that the extra hour is worth it to us. If you are looking forward to the Blue Point, I recommend that you make reservations about 2 weeks BEFORE your vacation. If you wait until you get down there it can be difficult to get in. |
