Door ding in parking lot - I'm the dinger what to do

Anonymous
I've gotten so many door dings that I wouldn't care at this point. though it does annoy me that I'm so careful not to hit anyone and nobody else seems to care.

I do deeply resent the asshole who apparently backed into me hard enough to crack my taillight and didn't leave a note. jackass.

My friend is a lawyer that we all ACCEPT risk when we leave our house that's it . If thing happened and we accept that risk. Door dings happen it is life happening for most people

I could carless about a ding as long as
my car is in running perfectly.

You are a very conscientious person. My friend that works at the store said most people just drive off.

OP I wish more people were like you.
It will be okay.

OP are you ready to pony up $1k+ to fix the ding? That’s often the going in price for such work. Unless you track down the shady “fix your ding $50” guys in parking lots.

I have never in my 23 years of driving, ever given anyone a door ding. On windy days, hold your door with your other hand, or knee, or foot. All you have to do is just try.

There’s no fault insurance anyway.

OP dinged the door NINE years ago. I'm sure she's forgotten about it by now.

You do nothing. Try and forget about it.

DD opened the car door, the wind caught it and I now think it dinged the car beside us (slight paint, but no dent) When it happened I got out to check and the ding was a little below the pointed part of our door. And there was no paint on our car's point. I left, not leaving a note. Got home, got on my knees in sunlight and examined the door again. I saw there was some paint on the under curve of the door (tough to explain here, but it was under the pointed part). Loaded the kids back up, went back to leave a note and the car was gone. I saw the same car at a light pulling out of the shopping center and stalked them, but didn't see a mark. I headed home and called the store. They said no one reported anything and laughed when I tried to leave my information. I will call them again tomorrow to see if anyone complained.

Should I call the nonemergency number for our county? Will they even take my information?

Feeling like an a$$ that I didn't look closer/under the curve of the door when I was there.

How special for you. OP said it was her child, who isn't apparently as perfect as you are.

I’ve been driving for 33 years and have only dinged somebody’s car with my door once, under similar circumstances. A sudden, powerful gust of wind blew my door hard and I lost control of it. I left a note. A woman called me back and said it was her husband’s car and she’d have him call me. No one ever called back.
