I did not know you had to buy v-day gifts for teachers and classmates.

When my son was about that age (in the toddler class at daycare), I had no idea about Valentine's day. We showed up to his class on Valentine's Day empty handed and his cubby was full of Valentines. No one ever held it against us. This year I had so much to do just to help my kids with cards for their classmates, that their teachers are just getting cards and nothing else.

This was my first year with a preschooler in school, so I was clueless as well. I read all the stuff sent home from school and seriously thought I wasn't supposed to do anything. Oh well, some of the other kids in class sent home valentines, but it looks like a couple of others didn't. I personally am not that into valentine's day and wish it had never been created. Now that I know it's such a big deal in preschool, I vow to be better next year. It's funny the things you didn't know you signed up for when you had that precious little baby. My little one is one year old today, and I'm kinda sentimental about how special that baby time was. The babies certainly don't care about stupid stuff like cheap valentines from cvs.

I sent my kindergartener off to school with the simple paper cards from the box sets. They each have a little trinket attached that came with the set. It never occurred to me to give the teacher something other than one of the Valentine's. That's just too much, in my opinion. I just got her a Xmas gift, for heaven's sake! I did not do anything for my 1 year old daughter's class at day care and I am skipping the party--I don't think Valentine's cards have any meaning for 1-year-olds and I'm kind of annoyed at Valentine's Day being turned into a general school holiday. Call me a Scrooge, that's how I feel! This never came up in DS's daycare (a different one) or preschool (possibly b/c the preschool had a religious orientation), so I have not experienced the VDay pressure up 'til now. For those who enjoy celebrating VDay in school/daycare, enjoy! I hope everyone has a HVD with their spouse/partner/loved one, etc.

Man, reading these posts makes me feel good about having my daughter in a home daycare with a non-American care provider. I hope my 7 month old doesn't come home with Valentines...

I'll be prepared for the stress when she gets older and we have classmates.
