Why isn't MCPS redistricting Rachel Carlson

I don't understand the "yet". Is the attendance of these children at Rachel Carson less legitimate than the attendance of other children? Where do you think they should be going to school instead?

How about Fields Rd ES, which is 1 mi down the road. RC is 4 mi north. All the neighborhoods in between are zoned for either Fields or Dufief. This just doesn't make sense.

They keep Gov Square there because of diversity issues. Trying to be politically correct instead of just placing the closest kids to the school. They do the same thing in other districts too.

My kids are supposed to go to Ritchie Park in the upcoming years but I am going to put in a request for Cold Spring. We live in walking distance to that school and but would get a bus to Ritchie Park. Cold Spring is under capacity. Only 30 kids for the entire K class. Ritchie Park has 100. It is a no brainer for me. I can see them denying it though so I have to come up with a "reason."

I am guessing it is to spread out the SES, since RC is mostly madeup of the pricey Kentlands area.

Which is not fair. No offense but the school was built FOR the Kentands and Lakelands area. They knew there were going to be a lot of kids in that area when they built it. To add even more kids to make the SES numbers better and keep the school at double the capacity is insane. There are TWO under-capacity schools closer to them that they can go to. No one in walking distance to an elementary school should get moved because of SES numbers. MCPS has got to come up with a better plan.

PP I agree. Fields Road is almost at capacity, but at least it isn't 160% over capacity. There are also neighborhoods across 28 that could go to Dufief but doubt MCPS would do the logical thing there either.

And I thought Crown Farm was going to include a school? Did anyone else read that?

Anyway I'm not too happy about the overcrowding. I have one kid at RC. And we did buy in that neighborhood considering the schools.

Churchill and Wootton are over capacity, though, so I guess that this nefarious plan isn't working so well.

We are talking about ES, not HS level. Most HS are over capacity as well, or at capacity. It's harder for ES kids to deal with overcrowding. Most of the Wootton and Churchill cluster ESs are under capacity.

Actually Rmhs is under capacity

This is what I'm talking about... they do this at Ritchie Park, too, with Fallsgove. Why? Why? Why?

I believe the original builder plans for king farm and fallsgrove included elementary schools. Why were they never built?

Actually RM is under capacity NOW and barely and it is only because they built it slightly bigger during construction. It will not be in 2 more years ongoing as all the 4 ES schools and JW middle school are at least 120% overcapacity. Adding a 5th school will help the elementary levels but it will only increase middle and high school.

Churchill and Wootton are projected to be under capacity for the next 5 years.

Crown farm set aside land for a high school, but it is not funded and therefore not happening any time soon.

RC has been overcrowded for many years. It amazes me that people are buying here and are unaware of the issues. This is easily researched on the MCSP site which has an "At a glance" page for every single school.

Then send their kids to private. A good amount do now.

I agree, RC is probably one of the most over capacity ES around here.

You also have the entire RM cluster at over capacity. The neighboring clusters of Wootton and Churchill have ESs that are under capacity while the RM cluster ESs are *all* over capacity, and there are some condos or townhomes about to be completed that are apparently zoned for RM cluster school even though the Churchill cluster ES is closer to this new development.

What school is the new development in King Farm (or is it Crown Farm - where the new Harris Teeter is) zoned for?

I truly don't get the zoning in MCPS. You have Fallsgrove zoned for RP, but they pass by Dufief and a few other ESs that are under capacity along the way to RP that also over capacity with at least 4 portables.

This is insane. It's stupid. It's a slap in the face to the kids in the portables, and those that have to wait in a very long line for lunch or who have to wait till 1pm for lunch.

Rosemont ES & Gaithersburg HS - Who on earth would buy there?!

My child's school was in an 18 month capacity study. Eleven out of 12 schools got additions, they decided to study our school for another 18 months and compare it to a different set of schools. It is over capacity. My child eats lunch at 1:05

Are you surprised? The BOE is spending taxpayer funds using their credit cards and no one cares. Starr is running the level of education down with C 2.0 and no one cares. Elect the same bozos back to the BOE for more of same or stop complaining and vote for change.
