I leave three pairs of work shoes at work. |
OP here. That's what I did at my old job when I had an office but now since I have to hotel, I can't leave anything at work. And there's a waiting list for lockers. (yes, first world problems, I know...) |
Just take them back. People do it all the time. |
If they won't take them back, you can try to take them to a shoe repair place and have them stretched out. That way you don't have to live through the pain of wearing them in. |
+1 This is what I always do (except we have hardwood). |
Why don't you try wearing sneakers and keeping the heels at work. Seriously, no pair of heels is going to be comfortable to wear uphill! |
OP can't keep anything at work. No regular office/cube. Please read the thread before commenting. Thanks. |
What is "hoteling"? |
You don't have a regular office/space, so when you come into work you get assigned to an empty office/space. It reduces the amount of a space a company needs to have, especially if employees work off-site a lot. |
I don't see why you cannot take worn shoes back if you are not happy with them.
If you haven't worn them, then how will you know if you are happy with them, right??! If a business wants to keep its customers happy, then they will take worn shoes back. Plain and simple. |
Echoing what someone else said about stretching them at a cobbler's- you can buy your own shoe stretchers and do it yourself at home. I prefer to do that anyway b/c I can control how long I stretch them, whereas with the shoe place, you obviously don't get that amount of control. I also will blow some hot air from my hair dryer on to help loosen the leather. |
This is awful, and doubly so when places do not provide adequate conference rooms and freaking storage space. I sympathize, OP. however, do not return worn shoes. |
Hey OP, did you return the shoes? |
I always thought that many of their brand name shoes were just older models and that's why they couldn't be found elsewhere on line or at the brand stores such as Naturalizer or Clark's. Some shoes I've been able to find at Zappos. |
Agree with this. It happened so often to me that I try something in store on their plush carpets and it feels like walking on air, to walk 2 min in the street for them to start hurting. I do what pp does now: I gave up on the idea of commuting in heels. Now my heels are neatly stacked in one of my work drawers and I walk in sneakers and change their. I also started when I buy new shoes to just wear them to spend time with them around the house. For e.g. When I am watching tv or reading in the evening. Staying in a shoe for 1 straight hour usually tells me more on whether I will wear them again or not more than a 2 min try in a shop. I ended up returning a few after I could not even sit in them for more than an hour. |
