Um... ok. UCSB does not equal Chapman, dirty town or not. And I think the PP above who said Chapman was in LA (vs the OC) is a great example of how little regard even Californians have for Chapman. |
I am the PP you quoted. I am not making an academic comparison between UCSB and Chapman at all. The other PP's post about Chapman being in a "nothing town" reminded me of my opinion of Santa Barbara when I visited last year. And what I said is true. No need to make false comparisons that I never made. |
Chapman is like a large High School, not like a large college. There is really nothing that is visually striking about the school. The city is in Orange, CA - which has a creepy feel to it because thy have preserved all the 1920's era house as is - when you drive around you have the feeling that you are in some old movie. Other cities like Claremont have some natural beauty, but Orange is very strange. I sure wouldn't enroll before going out the see the campus and city. |
I wouldn't go to Chapman unless it was for their film program. |
Josh: Lucy's from El Salvador. Cher: So? Josh: So, it's an entirely different country. Cher: What does that matter? Josh: You get mad if anyone thinks you live below Sunset. |
I live in OC, pretty close to Chapman. I am not sure why your daughter wants to go to college in OC, but if she is thinking of California surf beach school, Cha |
I live in OC, pretty close to Chapman. I am not sure why your daughter wants to go to college in OC, but if she is thinking of California surf beach school, Chapman is not it, at least location-wise. OC is a big suburb, Chapman is in the middle of this suburb, and is a commuter school.
I only know reputation of its law school (I am an attorney), and its students have a hard time finding jobs after graduation. I don't know how the undergrad is, but if your daughter goes here, she probably needs to find a job locally afterwards, and since she has no connection here and the school isn't strong enough to carry weight, she may have a hard time? It she is set on going to school in SoCal, I'd look at other schools in LA. |
if that's the case, just go to pepperdine |
Pepperdine is very religious. |
I know a couple people who attended Chapman and I think they are incredibly smart, well-rounded and well-read. As smart as, if not smarter than, any "Ivy Leaguer" I've ever met. |
You attribute their qualities to Chapman? Smart well-rounded people tend to come off as smart, well-rounded and well-read regardless of where they went to college. The college you attended says much more about your family circumstances and where you were reared than it does about how smart you are - and being well-rounded has very little correlation with the school you attended. |
LOL..that is too funny! ![]() |
This is probably true. |
Whoever is comparing chapman to ucsb is crazy. I doubt anyone considering chapman can get into ucsb. |
+1 or Loyola Marymount is pretty close to the beach too. No personal experience with Chapman but I had a friend who taught English there and she hated it. Same complaints as PP about overprivileged kids who didn't want to work hard, and needed a lot of remedial writing help. |
