We are going to be alone for Thanksgiving and I am so happy!

We stopped doing holiday visits several years ago and instead do quiet Thanksgiving & Christmas dinners and it could not be any more wonderful. DH & I both love our families but the holidays seem to bring out the worse in everyone so instead we visit at other times and enjoy our little family for holidays.

I would love to do this. No one gives you any guilt about it? My first year of marriage we did both holidays with in laws (they invited my parents too). Second year, we went to Europe for Thanksgiving and spent Christmas with in laws, got some guilt but not like the third year when DD was born -we spent Thanksgiving with inlaws and took a trip over Christmas (my parents don't mind, the guilt is from inlaws). I want to continue with this tradition as I can't deal with two holidays with them and the thought of it continuing for many years to come, but I feel guilty as soon as holidays start rolling around.

Aww. What about your parents? Don't they get a holiday with the grandchild ever?

Thi is why we rotate holidays. One year off, one year with extended family.
