Would it be worth getting a soda stream?

The people complaining about it's "business practices" (I.e. they are made in Israel) are ridiculous - I'm pretty sure most of what you are wearing is made by slave-like labor, the fabrics in your home (towels, rugs), slave labor. The food you eat? Mostly by low wage farm hands. Lastly, MANY, MANY Americans go without sick or vacation days or fair wages or guaranteed hours (Starbucks, anyone?). Whole Foods has awful health insurance coverage - bet no one balks at that.

Soda stream is just an easy target. If you think you'll use it and it'll help reduce the number of bottles you throw away, then go for it.

well i can't control everything and can't balk at everything. i've decided to avoid this.

Yes. I think they have two models that use glass bottles. Love ours!

Same for me. There is a boycott of this company. I didn't want to support them.

^^
"Although SodaStream products are labeled as "Made in Israel," its main production facility is in the industrial zone of Mishor Edomin, an illegal settlement in the occupied West Bank. As a result, SodaStream enjoys cheap land and water, confiscated from the indigenous Palestinian owners; a captive Palestinian labor force; tax benefits; and lax regulation of environmental and labor protection laws. All Israeli settlements exist in direct contravention to international law."

Gimme a break - you all choose to "boycott" a company while most likely putting significant money into the hands of slave labor producers, nevermind what happens in your own community that you pay for that hurts your neighbors.

I guess ignorance is bliss so you'll jump on the bandwagon that is most convenient for you - you won't miss homemade seltzer, so go for it. But not buying my kids cheap clothing, that's way too much of an inconvenience.

I'm still stuck on seltzer water vs. sparkling water. We are big San Pellegrino drinkers - will the SodaStream water taste similar?
Anonymous
Pellegrino is a mineral water. Sodastream makes your tap water fizzy. They won't taste the same, no.

The refill cartridges are around $16 or $17 if you trade in the old one. For us, it's worth it. The best part is not lugging heavy bottles of water or recycling empty bottles.

Sodastream does have a model that uses glass bottles - the Penguin. There are probably other brands out there as well.

This makes no sense. Who said they did or did not buy cheap clothing?

If you support the illegal settlements just own that and say so.

Also, you people claiming it is too expensive should also consider your carbon footprint. Shipping? Packaging? So wasteful!

Your DH may have been mainlining Pelligrino (we are also addicted to it) because of the lithium in it. He may not be getting lithium and other minerals in sodastream water. Lithium lifts the mood.

There are liquid minerals you can add to water, Concentrace is one.

I have a soda stream at work and at home. Love it! I love it more now that they have the 1/2 liter bottles, because I wouldn't always finish the full liter.

Hint - do your exchanges at Bed Bath & Beyond (for the small cylinders) and use your BBB 20% off coupon.

I don't understand. Why are people boycotting it just because it's made in Israel?

Here are some more products for the anti-Israeli crowd to boycott, starting with Pampers.
