| Just from personal experience, I am ADHD co-morbid with GAD. What I have found is medication works best to manage my ADHD and CBT and other mindfulness strategies are most effective for my anxiety. I resisted medication for my ADHD for a long time and was on anxiety meds for GAD with no noticeable results. I finally have a psychiatrist who had me make a plan for trying the ADHD meds and meeting the anxiety with cognitive strategies. And it really is the best solution. Cognitive and behavioral strategies are good supports for my ADHD but without medication they don't manage it well, and my anxiety is through the roof. On ADHD meds, I am able to think clearly enough to plan out how I will manage my anxiety. Both will always be there but this strategy keeps them in the background for me -- managed. |

My child was in CBT therapy for anxiety starting at 8. At 9, still showing significant anxiety, we started DC on a low dose of Prozac and it helped tremendously. Still minor inattentive symptoms though. Was OK in ES, but once DC started MS, inattention and anxiety went thought the roof. After a tough 7th grade, started DC on Concerta 36 mg. It's worked wonders for the attention and we've also realized for the anxiety. DC was under so much stress trying to keep everything managed, and the stimulant has helped with that. Are now considering reducing the SSRI.
