| I would suggest Dan Shapiro's 10 week classes (one is starting up soon), along with reading (explosive child, etc). Start with that and see how it goes. |
Can't really imagine working with someone who never meets the child and who does not work with the family as a system. Seldom is it just the child. |
| I assume people here are utilizing these therapies in combination with medication (start low, go slow) and needed changes in diet to really give a child the best chance to succeed? One without considering the others is kind of taking half-measures. |
| A HUGE no for Sharon Weiss - she was a complete waste of time and money. She just gave us all a big headache |

My child's ADHD ish behaviors have been greatly improved through therapy, sleep, protein heavy diet. It made sense to start with those before medication.
His eval also suggested behavior therapy but I could never find anyone who took our insurance. Went to play therapy (only modestly helpful) and he sees the MSW at school (which has been enormously helpful). |
Not a fan of Robin, but we knew another family that liked her. They were dealing with more extreme behavior issues and had tried several behavior therapists before. We tried her, didn't find it to be a good match and then moved on to someone who worked out really well. (He no longer practices in the area unfortunately). |
| NP - OP, I would suggest someone but everyone we tried in No. Virginia (including Sharon Weiss) turned out to be duds. To me, the ADHD tutoring/therapist/meds services arena needs to be cleaned up. Too many people with ADHD themselves have been attracted to it. Too many people think they can make a quick buck off of desperate parents. Too many therapists think they can help but haven't been trained. I would suggest calling CHADD and K-K as suggested. Maybe Children's Hospital. Wish I could be more helpful! |
