And when you do...check out Sea Colony. I am not the PP. |
| We are taking our kids to Avalon/Stone Harbor. It is our absolute favorite beach. OP did not mention it, but it is worth a look/see. |

Ok, I'm a big fan of the DE beaches and have spent a lot of time at all three beaches over the years.
Rehobeth: Tons to do, lots of restaurants, great boardwalk (but boardwalk is very large and crowded/busy so I would not recommend staying right on/near it). Dewey: Lots of shops and little restaurants. Can Trolley it to Rehobeth in 5 min. Yes, there are lots of drunk 20 and 30 somethings (I used to be one of them) but they are usu there only Fri-Sun and are generally ok during the day as they are recovering from the night before). Unless your planning to take your kids to the bars at night, you should be fine hanging out at your rental, eating out and/or heading to Rehobeth. Bethany: Very family friendly, lots of shops/restaurants. However, for reasons I don't quite understand, the beaches are VERY, very crowded. Moreso than the other two (which are also crowded but you can find some open'ish space there, imo, if you're off the boardwalk). Also, everything at Bethany shuts down at dusk. Very little to do after dark (depending on your kids' ages that might not matter.) Now, we have always stayed with friends or had a full summer rental at the beaches. So, I can't recommend a hotel or rental but I saw someone recommend Sea Colony. I've had people I know have condos there and they are so-so on it. They are HUGE buildings of condos (yes, on the water) but are quite ugly. We always joke that they look like Soviet bloc style buildings . . . but, that is aesthetics. I cannot personally speak to whether it is a good place to stay or not. |

OP: Are you looking for a nice, quiet, pretty beach experience or arcade/being seen/high energy experience? I don't think you can get both.

While the outside of Sea Solony might not look nice to you, the insides of most of these places are amazing. And the beach in front of it is private. |
