There's a friends of the library in Wheaton as well. The basement of the MCPL on Georgia. Don't buy used books that smell musty though. Also you can go to Estate Sales (estatesales.net). Every house has tons of books and often art books as well. They also often have beautiful, interesting knick nacks, vases, art pieces, often from around the world. They happen every weekend and are fun to go to. You can see some pictures and info online. If it's a modern space, empty space is good, just not too much of it. You could also buy smallish frames that will stand up and fill them with modern post cards or even modern prints from IKEA or on the web. Simple colorful and black and white images would look really cool. Good luck. If you are an academic you can fill the books up with books from different topical areas that you or your friends might like to read: Anthro, Philosophy, Literature, Poetry, History. Pick some subject areas that you'd like to see represented and then go to a used book store and pick some books in each genre. Then read or flip through one book a month and you will have the bookshelves that just keep giving.
