I honestly do not know.

Perhaps because she may still be in contact w/them in some way either by telephone or online. Or maybe you know them or there is the potential to know them.

Regardless she is coming clean now.

Figured it out. These "ex-lovers" continued on as her "friends with benefits" for many years after the relationships "ended" - right up until the time I started dating her (and perhaps beyond).

Awkward. Sorry, OP. I'm guessing you figured it was something not quite aboveboard or you wouldn't have asked. I'm still friendly with two significant exes, but there was full disclosure from the time I started dating now-DH. I told him early on that they were still around, purely as friends, and that if he had issues with that, we probably wouldn't work out. Not because I still wanted to hook up with them, by any stretch of the imagination. It is one thing to just not talk about exes, fine. But another to make up names and lie. I agree with PP that lying indicates there is something to hide,
