Thoughts on West Virginia University....

When I hear WVU I instantly think party school. It's just the reputation. However that doesn't mean I wouldn't hire someone with a WVU degree given they had the right skills and personality

Thanks for all the replies.

The other things that he find attractive is that it's one of few schools that offer PE, and they have D1 Crew which is his next love. But I get what you all are saying about reputation.

Delaware has D1 rowing as well.

I don't know anything about the school. But it's been recommended to my step son by his guidance counselor. Here's the thing...he barely has a 2.1 and got somewhere between 1600-1700 on his SATs.

Guidance counselor said he would probably not be able to get into Salisbury or Towson, but could get into Frostburg. UMCP and UMB are completely off the table.

So what I take away from knowing this one child to whom this school is being recommended is that it can't be a strong academic school.

I thought on your earlier post (22:44) you said he had the stats. With 2.1/1600-1700, you can take UMDCP, UMBC, Pitt, UDel, VT off the table. I'd also reconsider his plan to major in engineering. Has he considered going to CC for two years and then to transfer? It will be cheaper for sure and also give him a couple more years to mature.

I don't OP was the one with a child having a 2.1 GPA etc. That was another poster talking about her step son.

I'd be surprised if someone with a 2.1 got in honestly. No chance for engineering.

Meaningless statistic: could mean WVU enforces laws while other colleges ignore them.

There's also NCSU for engineering. With RTP nearby there are a lot of internships and co-ops available.

Seriously, they were way more attractive and healthy looking than any ACC fans except Clemson.
