Wrong. Directly from the government website: http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/frequently-asked-questions-faqs/ What goods and services does the CPI include? The BLS has created more than 200 categories for all goods and services they track. These 200 are placed within eight major groups: Food and Beverages: meat, milk, beer, wine, snacks, etc. Housing: rent of primary residence, owners’ equivalent rent, fuel oil, bedroom furniture, etc. Apparel: clothing like pants, shirts, sweaters, etc. Transportation: vehicles, airline fares, gasoline, etc. Medical Care: hospital services, drugs, medical supplies, glasses, etc. Recreation: TV, pets, movies, pets, etc. Education and Communication: college costs, telephone services, computer software, postage, etc. Other: smoking products, haircuts and other personal services The CPI does not include savings or investment items, like stocks and bonds or real estate. |
| I've definitely noticed at least a 10% increase in most things that I buy. Went this afternoon for a few things and ended up spending $50+. In my defense, DH was with me, and he buys without looking at prices. |
| I wonder where the government shops when they calculate inflation. I'm sure they don't go to Whole Foods, but are they shopping on the coasts, the Midwest, the South (where groceries are much cheaper)? Are they shopping at Giant, Aldi, or Super-Valu? |
| Probably because they just introduced thier version of a "bonus" card. |
They did? I didn't notice anything about that in store today. |
It's just started in their NJ stores. Not sure when it will make it to this area. |
Quoting myself..googled it.."bonus/club/rewards whatever you wanna call it card" is only in the Princeton, NJ store |
USAToday article says could be nationwide by late 2015 |
| But at least while prices are going up real wages are stayin the same. |
| whole foods prices are also driving me insane. i feel like i'm spending $50-$70 more a week. I'm going to Trader Joes today instead. |
| Ha. I have not shopped much there in a while, because I thought the prices there were already pretty jacked up, even on the conventional stuff. Does anyone else here not shop at WF? I have been pretty much shopping at TJ's and H Mart. An Aldi opened up nearby just recently and I've been taking advantage of that. I guess I've been pretty sheltered from these wacko price increases. |
| Ugh! I haven't done a big shop at WF in a 3-4 weeks and will await the sticker shock when I go later today. |
Climate change will impact food prices at every store. So you'll spend more regardless of where you shop. Off topic but these CA wildfires will only grow worse over time. People get upset about these events but do nothing to change their CO2 footprint. So this is the result- costlier food, more severe weather, more Lyme disease, migration of animals / species threatened, etc. sounds like you're a climate change denier PP. |
Haven't you people ever heard of Giant? There are a few isolated things I prefer to get at WF (maybe) but jeez. Also, in August I got shrimp from the fish counter and it turned out that night to be rotten. I will never buy fresh seafood there again (Vienna store). |
| Counting down the days till Moms opens in Arlington. They have amazing prices. They sell the wild catch canned tuna for less than I can get it on Amazon. All produce is organic. Sooo much cheaper and free coffee. Summer 2015!! |
