Venting about variable income

How much do you make OP? My DH makes a little less than that, and yes, we couldn't afford to live on just that. Luckily, I make about the same so then it works.

You need to get used to living of a portion of the bonus in between. I get a small base ($120k) and quarterly distributions (much of which goes to taxes). Total can be $300-500k. DH is self employed so it's strictly as cash comes in the door. We use the quarterly distributions to pay big things like tuition, taxes, retirement contribs, etc. We have a big reserve fund to supplement my salary amount to cover regular monthly expenses.

Don't blow all of the bonus on frivolous stuff.
I suppose you are in finance?

If your first year you are making $150k, how do you feel about us who first year out made $50k?

Not first year working, first year going to a pay schedule like this. And to be honest, I don't think that I know anyone who makes $50k.

Sorry what's the problem? Some years you make $300K and some years over a million, and you want to live a lifestyle that assumes you make over $300K every year?

That's because you are in finance and not engineering.

So if this isn't the first year working, why is this a problem? Have you been blowing all your income up to this point?

So there are people who pay your DH to manage their money??? No wonder there was a financial crisis...

Are you just really bad with money? I don't understand what is so annoying. Seems like there is a fairly easy way to handle this.

Humble brag

It's not even humble. It's just pathetic.

"Woe is me, my DH may or may not bring home $1 million this year, and I want to spend it NOW."

Because, apparently, last year's million is LONG gone.

Get a grip. Many people you come across do not make $50k, they survive but cutting extras and living within their means.
I would LOVE to make a base of $150k and I know how to make it stretch.
